Materials & Care Guide
Care begins with the material actually named
Finish names describe appearance; they do not always identify the material underneath. Start with the verified specification on the product page. Instructions supplied with the furniture take priority over this general guide.
When the furniture arrives
Keep packaging, the hardware list and instructions until the item is inspected and assembled. Photograph a concern before cleaning or altering the surface. Place furniture on a level surface, use the supplied hardware and follow all anchoring, load and safety instructions. Do not force a fitting that does not align.
Wood, engineered wood and veneer
Dust with a soft, dry or barely damp cloth, following the grain where visible. Wipe moisture promptly. Use coasters, placemats and protective pads beneath hot, wet or abrasive objects. Avoid soaking edges, seams and joints.
Strong solvents, silicone polishes and abrasive pads can change sheen or damage a finish. Use only a cleaner approved by the supplied instructions and test it in a hidden area first.
Walnut, oak, cherry, espresso and similar terms can name a color or finish. Treat them as a species claim only when the product specification separately identifies that species.
Fabric, velvet, boucle and faux leather
Vacuum loose dust with a suitable upholstery attachment and low suction. Blot a spill rather than rubbing it outward. Cleaning codes, fibers and approved methods vary, so check the label or instructions before using water, steam or cleaner.
Velvet pile can show directional shading. Keep faux leather away from harsh solvents and excessive heat unless its instructions say otherwise. Rotate removable cushions only when construction allows it. A zipper alone does not mean a cover is machine washable.
Glass, metal and stone-look surfaces
Use a nonabrasive cloth and a compatible cleaner, keeping liquid away from joints and surrounding materials. Lift objects rather than dragging them. Stone-look, marble-pattern and sintered-stone surfaces should be cared for according to the verified material, not assumed to be natural stone.
Dry moisture from metal frames and hardware promptly. Avoid abrasive tools that can scratch a coating. Check fasteners after initial use and at the intervals stated in the assembly instructions.
Outdoor furniture
Outdoor placement does not automatically mean every cushion, finish or component is waterproof, UV-proof, freeze-proof or suitable for year-round exposure. Follow only the performance claims and care instructions supplied for the exact product. Keep drainage paths clear, allow pieces to dry and store cushions as directed.
If material compatibility is uncertain, contact Goods Spring before using a cleaner. See the Warranty & Product Support page for a product concern.
